Shah Rukh Khan is a huge name internationally. Aryan Khan, his son, has now proved that he is no less than him in terms of talent, although directorial. His directorial debut, The Ba***ds of Bollywood, is now no. 1 on the Netflix channel. He has shown that he is ready to work hard despite being a superstar’s son. The story of the series The Ba***ds of Bollywood is about the struggles of Aasmaan Singh(Lakshya Lalwani), who is an outsider in Bollywood. He is offered a movie by the legendary director Karan Johar, but his dates seem to clash with those of producer Freddy Sodawallah. On the other hand, the nepokid Karishma Talvar, with whom he is supposed to be debuting, her father Ajay Talwar(Bobby Deol), is not happy with him. He wants his daughter to debut with an established movie star. The series is relatable to all outsiders in Bollywood. The entire satirical series shows how Aasmaan ends up in jail because of his rift with the so-called Bollywood mafia. The movie stars in a stereotypical Bollywood manner when Aasmaan has to replace a stuntman who is injured while doing his job. He does an excellent job, and the movie is a hit.
Therefore, at the success party of the movie, the producer Sodawallah offers him a 3-movie deal. Aasmaan’s mother, Neeta, has also worked in Bollywood for 10 years and encourages his son to follow his desires. The movie also shows how critics heap praises on nepokids while ignoring the outsiders. Aasmaan hits a movie critic when he does not get fair treatment from him, who says on his show that he has no acting skills. Incidentally, this series has another star, Raghav Joyal, from Lakshaye Lalwani’s first hit, Kill, which was released in 2023.
So, the series stars Lalwani as the protagonist Aasmaan, and his mother’s role is played by Neeta Singh(Mona Singh). Talking about the performances, Lakshaya has done his job well. He is a good actor and has a charismatic presence, too. As far as the other actors in the series are concerned, Bobby Doel is fine as a father who is ambitious for his daughter. There are a dozen cameos in the series, including Ranveer Singh, Karan Johar, Aamir Khan, Sara Ali Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Rajkumar Rao, Badshah, Siddanth Chaturvedi, and Emraan Hashmi, all playing themselves. The series is doing well now. It will decide the fate of Aryan Khan, whether he should follow in the footsteps of his father or become a director in Bollywood.
Overall, Aryan Khan has done a great job as a director and a storyteller.
Reuters, the global news agency, has commented that Netflix can only have a bright future in India based on such shows.
