It’s sad news for all the fans of Deepika Padukone. As per the latest tweet by the makers of Vyjayanti films, Deepika Padukone will not be reprising her role in the second installment of the super hit movie, Kalki 2898 AD. It could be a publicity stunt by the makers to announce her removal from the second instalment, but without her, the movie franchise makes no sense.
The story of the movie revolved around Deepika Padukone’s character Sumati, who was pregnant with Kalki, responsible for the upliftment of the world, which had been destroyed.
Apart from Deepika Padukone, the movie also starred legends like Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, and Kamal Hassan. Kamal Hassan played the role of Supreme Yaskin, who was ruling the world in 2898 A.D. and wanted to utilize the energy of Kalki. He was shown revitalizing himself at the end of the 1st movie through a serum extracted from Kalki’s fetus.
Amitabh Bachchan played the character of Ashwathama from the Mahabharata, the son of Guru Dronacharya, who kills Abhimanyu’s son in his mother Uttara’s womb and, consequently, is cursed by Lord Krishna to be immortal. So, due to being immortal, Ashwathama has been living in the world for 6000 years since the war of Kurukshetra, which happened in the Mahabharata. He is responsible for bringing Kalki into the world.
The character of Karan in Mahabharata was played by Prabhas, who had a double role in the movie as a hired myrmidon known as Bhairava in 2898 AD. He was given the task of capturing Sumati and bringing her into the Complex, a heaven created in a destroyed world. He would be given the award to live in the Complex with clean air and water if this task were accomplished. Although Bhairava saves Sumati from getting captured by Commander Manas, whom Bhairava kills when he gets into a trance as Karan, in the second installment of the movie, the fans were yearning to watch what happens to Sumati. It’s because at the end of the movie, Bhairava gets out of his trance and captures Sumati and takes her to Yaskin. But the film would be no fun without this character, as Deepika Padukone has been dropped from the movie franchise.
In the 1st movie, Supreme Yaskin was responsible for carrying out Project K on women who were artificially impregnated to see whether they could give birth to Kalki. Yaskin believes that Kalki’s fetus will have a life-enhancing caliber that could let him get his youth and energy back after living for 200 years. Kalki is said to be an incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu. If any impregnated woman’s serum could not revitalize Yaskin, that woman was killed in this project.
Lord Vishnu is known as the creator of life in the Hindu mythology. Amitabh Bachchan had delivered an excellent performance in his role as Ashwathama.
Why has Deepika Padukone been evicted from this movie?
It could be because of her resolution not to work for more than eight hours after the birth of her daughter Dua. The makers must have wanted her to work more for this movie. At least their tweet indicates that.
