Kuch Kuch Hota Hai(1998):
This was one of the biggest Shah Rukh Khan old movies, which established him as the King of Romance. Shah Rukh Khan plays a St. Xavier’s college student named Rahul who has a tomboyish friend with a blunt cut, Anjali (Kajol). Anjali harbours feelings for Rahul, but he just treats her as his best friend. Their lives change when Tina, the daughter of the Principal(Anupam Kher), arrives from London. Rahul instantly falls in love with her. Anjali tries to dress up like Tina(Rani Mukherjee), but Rahul and his friends make fun of her. Anjali leaves college hurt by his behavior. Rahul marries Tina and they have a daughter, but she dies after delivery. Rahul names his daughter Anjali. Somehow, Tina had a premonition about her death, because the doctor had already said that there were complications in her pregnancy. So, she leaves eight letters for her daughter to be opened on her birthdays.
After 8 years, when the young Anjali reads letters from her mother, she realizes that there was a girl in her father’s life who loved him. Anjali somehow learns that the older Anjali is running a summer camp in Shimla. She decides to attend that summer camp, even though Rahul does not approve of it. She meets the older Anjali there and starts liking her. Rahul also arrives at the summer camp looking for her daughter. He is stunned to see the older Anjali, who has completely changed her appearance and has longer hair, and wears sarees. So, how the feelings of Rahul and Anjali reignite and whether they get married or not is to be seen in the movie. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol delivered excellent performances in this movie. Salman Khan had a special appearance in the movie as Anjali’s fiancé, Aman Mehra.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham(2001):
This is one of the iconic movies of Indian cinema. In this movie, Shah Rukh Khan plays Rahul, the adopted son of a millionaire, Yashvardhan Raichand, and his wife Nandini, played by Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, respectively. His marriage has already been fixed to Rani Mukherjee’s character, but Rahul falls in love with Kajol, who plays Anjali Sharma in this movie. Rahul has plans to leave Anjali, but when he discovers that her father, played by Alok Nath, has died, he decides to marry her. Yashvardhan does not accept a common girl, Anjali, as his daughter-in-law, and Rahul leaves his father and goes to London. Years pass, Rohan Raichand(Hritik Roshan), the younger Raichand son, meanwhile, is all grown up and comes to India after finishing his studies. He decides to unite his family and goes to London to search for Rahul. When he finds Rahul, he decides to live as a tenant in his house. He ensures this with the aid of Rahul’s sister-in-law, Pooja(Kareena Kapoor), who lives in the same house with Rahul and Anjali. Pooja is known as Poo by everybody due to her glamorous dressing. Rahul now has a son with Anjali called Krish.
Since Rahul’s nanny lives with him, she immediately recognizes Rohan. Rohan, after some days, becomes friendly with Rahul and asks him to come back to India and live with his family. How the Raichand family reunites forms the end of the story. This movie was a big blockbuster, especially the songs.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham is one of the most idyllic Shah Rukh Khan old movies, where the motto is that love for the family gives strength to a person.
