Ajay Devgan rose to prominence at the start of his career with the movie Phool aur Kaante(1991). The audience loved his stunt of standing on two bikes. Ajay Devgan movies have been a hit with the audience due to their excellent storylines.
Omkara(2006): He then came into the limelight with his movie Omkara. This movie was based on the Shakespeare novel Othello. It starred Kareena Kapoor as the role of his lover, Dolly, who runs away from her arranged marriage. Dolly is prettier and educated than Omkara, Ajay Devgan’s character, and this is deeply concerning for him. Omkara is a mafia don who appoints Kesu (Vivek Oberoi) to lead the gang after him. This deeply disturbs Langda Tyagi (Saif Ali Khan), Omkara’s senior associate, who then incites him to believe that Dolly is cheating on him with Kesu. Omkara kills Dolly on their wedding night. When he learns that Dolly was not cheating on him, Omkara kills himself. Omkara learns the truth from Langda’s wife, Indu (Konkana Sen Sharma), that Langda had used her to plant evidence against Dolly. Indu kills Langda in the end.
Golmaal(2006):
Golmaal, one of the Ajay Devgan movies, was the initial film of a superhit franchise.
It is based on 4 college friends who enter the house of a blind couple. They all try to woo the neighbour of this couple, but in the end, she chooses the mute character played by Tushaar Khanna. This movie had 3 more instalments, which were superhits too. The biggest hit was Golmaal Again(2017), which had Parineeti Chopra playing a ghost and the group investigating her murder.
Singham(2011): Ajay Devgan plays a loyal cop, Bajirao Singham, who goes against corruption. He has to fight the local politician Jaikant Shikre, who gets him transferred to Goa when he arrests his goon. In Goa, none of the junior inspectors has the guts to go against Shikre. But Singham wins their confidence and later arrests Shikre, who has also been responsible for the suicide of a police inspector. This movie was a hit because of its stunts. Singham was directed by Rohit Shetty.
Drishyam(2015): It was one of the biggest hits of Ajay Devgan(Vijay Salgaonkar), where his daughter murders a boy, Sam Deshmukh, who had been blackmailing her. Unfortunately, Sam’s mother, Meera Deshmukh(Tabu), is an IG who is shocked when her son goes missing. The entire police force tries to find him, and Vijay is a prime suspect. But he trains his entire family and some other people to say that he and his family were out of town to attend a Satsang the day Sam went missing. He also dumps Sam’s car into a lake, which is later discovered by an inspector. In the end, Meera learns that her son is dead. Drishyam 2 has also been released, where Tabu takes the help of another cop to find her son’s body, but is unable to do so. She discovers the body, but the DNA test reveals otherwise. Vijay burns the body and gives the ashes to Meera and her husband. This Ajay Devgan movie series also has a sequel, Drishyam 3, in the pipeline that has Jaideep Ahlawat playing an important role.
