Today,on the 43rd birthday of Ranbir Kapoor, the grandson of Raj Kapoor, we bring to you some of his unforgettable movies. He is a talented actor.
Although Ranbir got a launchpad through Sanjay Leela Bhansali in 2007 in the movie Sanwaariya, it did not work well at the box office.
Rajneeti(2010)
One of Ranbir Kapoor best movies is Rajneeti. This movie was all about the feud in a family for political power. It had an ensemble star cast consisting of Manoj Bajpayee, Ajay Devgan, Arjun Rampal and Katrina Kaif. and was directed by Prakash Jha, who is known to make realistic cinema. Ranbir Kapoor plays Samar Pratap, the son of a politician, Chandra Pratap murdered by his nephew, Veerendra Pratap(Manoj Vajpayee). In fact, Ranbir prepares his brother Arjun Rampal(Prithviraj Pratap) to contest the elections instead of their dead father. Katrina Kaif( Indu) is the daughter of a businessman who loves Ranbir Kapoor, but he gets her married to his brother. In the end, Prithviraj Pratap is also murdered by Manoj Vajpayee, and Ranbir prepares his sister-in-law, Indu, for elections, who wins due to the public’s sympathy. In this movie, Ranbir Kapoor shone in his performance as the shrewd Samar Pratap.
Rockstar (2011)
It’s a movie about a wannabe singer, Janardan Jakhar aka Jordan, who falls in love with a girl played by Nargis Fakhri, Heer Kaul.The movie was directed by Imtiaz Ali and had its moments, like when Ranbir’s character proposes to Heer in college and she rejects him bluntly. He wants a heartbreak so that he can become a better singer because his mentor Khatana(Kumud Mishra), has told him that a heartbreak is common among all rockstars. Jordan does not realise his love for Heer till she is married. In the movie, when Heer’s husband realises that she loves Jordan, he brings her to India to her parents. He leaves her with her parents when she is diagnosed with blood cancer. Heer gets pregnant with Jordan’s child and goes into a coma. This shatters Jordan, but he has to sing to fulfil his legal contracts. With music composed by AR Rahman, it had several memorable musical delights which make it one of Ranbir Kapoor best movies.
Sanju(2018)
Sanju is undoubtedly one of the Ranbir Kapoor best movies in his cinematic journey to date.
This movie is based on the life of a famous Indian actor, Sanjay Dutt, who was addicted to drugs. He is the son of a famous actor and politician, Sunil Dutt(Paresh Rawal in the movie) and legendary actress, Nargis. The movie traces Sanjay’s journey from his fear of acting to the pain of losing his mother to cancer. He starts taking drugs under the influence of his friend, played by Jim Sarbh. When his mother, Nargis, played by Manisha Koirala, is brought to America for her treatment, Sanju takes drugs along with him on the flight. His father has no clue that his son is taking drugs. Sanjay makes a Gujarati friend Kamlesh Kanhaiyalal Kapasi aka “Kamli” at the hospital. Kamli understands his pain and brings laughter into the lives of the Dutt family with his Gujarati accent. But soon Sanju returns to India and gets more addicted. His mother dies a few days before the release of his 1st film. He asks his father to save him from his addiction. Sanju is enrolled in a rehabilitation centre in the US by his father, where he can’t adapt to a drug-free lifestyle. He flees the centre and meets Kamli to arrange money for drugs. But he meets up with his father, who tells him his dead mother won’t be pleased to see him in this state. Then Sanju goes back to the rehabilitation centre and, through his struggle, gets over his addiction. For this movie, Ranbir Kapoor won a Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
